archival activities - mamawi apikatetan Inc

Mamawi Apikatetan is a non-profit organization in Winnipeg, Manitoba that contributes to the documentation of Indigenous knowledge, memory, and story. We are an integrated Indigenous archives and together with like-minded folks, we are creating a digital landscape where First Nations and Métis people connect with local narratives of enduring value. These narratives are important for articulating cultural diversity, exploring self and family identity, and marking cornerstones for creative endeavors.

Record and object literacy strengthens our brand of storywork, and we are empowered by larger movements where Indigenous organizations are reclaiming cultural histories and prioritizing data sovereignty. Mamawi Apikatetan leads Indigenous Documentary Heritage projects like Throwback to the 2000's: Modern Impressions and Transferrable Knowledge and Screenshots of the 90’s: Active Wisdom and Modern Voices. In partnership with StrongFront.tv, these important contributions were strengthened by funding from Listen, Hear our Voices - Library and Archives Canada (LAC).

This work is a gentle reminder that Elders and Knowledge Keepers pass on, cultural practices change, and communities transform. Our focus rests on the documentation and preservation of Indigenous voices and as local archives emerge and grow, we are open to discussions about similar initiatives and future collaborations. If you want to know more about our projects and/or if you would like to contribute to our video heritage archive, please be in touch!
